VAUJANY (1300m-3300m) is just different! Part of the sunniest resort in the French Alps with more than 300 days of glorious blue skies a year and perched on a beautifully scenic slope in a corner of the Alpe d’Huez ski area – here the similarities to big purpose built resorts ends. Vaujany is perhaps the ultimate backdoor ski resort.
The resort of Vaujany resides on the mountain side. It has developed over the years to accommodate the eager tourist wanting to have everything at their fingertips – spa, bowling alley, swimming pool, gym, ice skating rink etc. The village is served by a sophisticated system of escalators making it easy to get around.
There are a few great little bars with sun terraces for a traditional kir aperitif, a chance to mingle with some of the village characters and it’s never far to wander along to one of the charming little restaurants so popular with holiday makers and locals alike.
Take advantage of the view and activities at L'Espace Loisirs (Sports and Leisure Complex) a facility that allows you to stay in shape and to recuperate. It is a great place to unwind after the day on the slopes and it will keep the kids (and adults) entertained until dinner!
Fancy Gratin Dauphinois? Traditional Fondue? Tartiflette? Raclette? Pizza? Try some of the wonderful truly local dishes. Being a village rather than a large resort, the restaurants are small, charming and rarely full, giving you all the benefits of attentive service along with good fresh food freshly prepared.
Whether it’s to thaw out and refuel when it’s snowing a blizzard outside, or to dine al fresco on a sun-drenched terrace whilst lapping up the admirable mountain views, there’s no shortage of reliable Vaujany mountain restaurants with more charm and charisma than those in many purpose built resorts.
(1400m–3300m) is the hamlet of which rural French Alpine dreams are made, but with a twist. Your beautifully restored private chalet is surrounded by gorgeous traditional mountain homes, where goats and chickens still inhabit cellars and lofts. Locals go about their traditional rural way of living as they have done for centuries and in the evenings a peace descends making your wood-fire lit lounge the perfect place to relax and really unwind.
We know that skiing and snowboarding isn't for everyone or perhaps you just want a day off from the mountain. There are plenty of things to keep you occupied for the whole week!
There are various events throughout the winter season in Vaujany as well as Oz and Alpe d'Huez. Events vary from slalom skiing, freestyle skiing, cross-country skiing, ice hockey, ice skating, curling, bowling, comedy nights, music performances and more!
