  • Snow Conditions

    Vaujany/Alpe d’Huez (3300m to 1100m) are currently blessed with some of the best snow conditions in the Alps. On the 28th December there were 115 groomed runs open (out of a possible 133); there was 210cms of snow pack at the top and 102cms at resort level. Both the Sarenne and La Fare are open and this is generally the litmus test for skiing conditions. Furthermore our accommodation and our staff are performing at tip top levels. Hotel Rissiou

The Vaujany Hotel Rissiou with its two ‘chimneys’ rating in the well-known French accommodation bible, 'Logis de France', has lead many a returning guest to ponder the conversion rate between French chimneys and British stars. As you dine in its Alpine-style restaurant with photos of the building as the centre of village life in the 19th century adorning the walls, you too may reflect upon whether the chimney awarders actually spent the night. For arguably the somewhat rustic and well-loved surroundings are more than made up for by the outstanding food, the welcome you’ll receive and the five-star service that accompanies it.

  • The toughest choice you’ll face each morning is whether having the daily breakfast special will mean there’s no room for the freshly baked baguettes, eggs, croissants and cereals of a traditional Rissiou breakfast.
  • Why not join our friendly and extremely piste and snow knowledgeable staff for the day? They will ski around the hill, down the best runs and to some great restaurants.
  • Most Rissiou rooms have south facing balconies which are perfect for après ski relaxation. If you still have the energy we can drive you to the Vaujany swimming and gym complex – kids will love the slide!
  • After the children have been served their supper it’s time for you to be transported on a culinary journey – 4 or 5 courses of fusion cooking – French and Antipodean is often the norm. The Rissiou prides itself on its extensive list of French wines – Rustic doesn’t sound so bad after all.

“The best way to discover the Alpe d’Huez area is to ski from Vaujany. When fresh snow has fallen, the extremely long but not too difficult black runs are a real treat for the experienced skier. Skiing in this area was a first for me but I am determined to come back, not only for the skiing but also for the excellent and entertaining evening meals at Hotel Rissiou. Every night we enjoyed a superb culinary experience with a glass of good wine in a pleasant cosmopolitan atmosphere.
